Funny 1998 Product Review: Sony Mavica

sony_mavica_1997Just for fun…in the past I posted images, timelines, anything that was moderately humorous on Friday’s.

I stumbled across another great avenue for a few laughs…product reviews from years past.  At least for those of us that remember these products and can remember how awesome it was to have a digital camera that used floppies! My first born was captured on a Sony Mavica…

Check out this product review from 1998 on the cutting edge Sony Mavica series of digital cameras. Here’s a quote for a taste:

“The original Mavica camera weighed almost 1.3 pounds and was a bulky 3 inches thick. The FD71 weighs 1.2 pounds and is 2.5 inches thick, making it a bit easier to hold and tote around. And whereas the original model took about 8 seconds to save a photo to a disk, this version averaged a more tolerable 4 seconds.”

Find some other great reviews from decades ago?

… let me know.

A nostalgic move from tape to disc

Old-VHS-turns-into-hard-drivesJust for fun.

“Be kind and rewind”… no more with this creative way to turn old VHS tapes into a unique external hard drive solution.  I know I still have VHS tapes laying around in the basement.  Everything from E.T. to Karate Kid, to the classics like Rocky I, II, III, IV…maybe Jaws or Caddyshack would make for some nostalgic storage.

This ads a whole new element to the decision making process when buying storage.

What movie would you memorialize?

Just for fun. Take a trip down memory lane and a glimpse into the future.

Check out these ads over the decades and see just how far we’ve come.  Take a look at some of these ads then take a look at the video tour of Intel’s booth at CES.  It’s crazy how far computer technology has come, and still crazier at how far we still have to go.

Check it out.

Timelines are cool – you can see how technology has evolved over the years in pictures. Check out Gizmodo’s  Sony’s Trinitron timeline… do you see where storage played a key role in their evolution?
